Greetings, Yogscast Wikians.

Forwarding on from the category restructure from the last Wiki Restructure post, there is one more issue regarding the arrangement of categories on the Wiki to address that we have previously overlooked. It is an issue that has been present for many months but never really focused on to solve. Now, with the first half of the category restructure completed, the time seems ripe to bring this subject matter into the spotlight.

The problem I speak of is the overlapping of categories, and how it can be fixed relatively easily if it is known what must be done. However, the main reason for this discussion is to decide how exactly to approach the problem.

The categories where this issues resides in are "Minecraft", "Games", "Series" and "Episode Guides". Much of the overlap occurs in these categories, with series and episode guides being the most severe of cases. As it is known, the Yogscast release videos that take the form of series. The only exceptions where a video would not be considered a series is if it is a one-off, part of a livestream, or a music video.

Since 95% of Yogscast videos are series, and this is split into various other categories—mainly "Minecraft", "Games", and "Episode Guides", as had been mentioned above—the amount of overlapping pages common to these categories is in the hundreds. There is no use to have near-identical categories. It defeats the purpose of having them in the first place. Categories are used for sorting different pages into groups, and two very similar categories may as well be one.

In order to maintain diversity among different pages and classify them accordingly, there is one fairly simple solution.

Categories on Yogscast.com

On Yogscast.com, there are three main categories sorting videos—Minecraft, Games and Shows. The difference between each is fairly straightforward. As its name suggests, Minecraft is for all Minecraft related videos. Games include any games other than Minecraft, and Shows are for videos that can't exactly be considered to be Games, like YogsQuest and Vlogs. It is the "Shows" category to be the subject of focus.

My proposal is this: the "Series" and "Episode Guide" categories are to be removed. the content is almost identical and causes a large overlap across much of the Wiki. Instead, a "Shows" category should be added for the same series on the respective category on Yogscast.com. Minecraft is a fairly large part of Yogscast videos, and so it will stay. Since it is only one game, there is no issue in it overlapping with the "Games", category. It can also be made into a subcategory if not already.

With the recent addition of Yogsbot, the deletion of pages within "Series" and "Episode Guides" can be done automatically and should not be costly. If this is the method we go by, some time would have to be spent on adding new pages to the "Shows" category.

Leave your opinions below. If the majority agrees on one course of action, it can begin immediately with Yogsbot up and running (hopefully not having already achieved sentience).
