Classic Roles (pre-2020)

From 3/10/17 (Witch Trial) rectangles of the players names, with the colour of their role & labelled with their role are shown at the top of the screen, the role label is removed 12/10/17. From 12/4/18 (Chernobyl) the role bars have curved ends. Deaths represented with a red cross through the box. Rectangles begin grey until they’ve been identified when dead, or seen on screen.

For the randomat 'Player is acting suspicious' (seen in 'Brand New Achievements), the role bar is split down the middle with Traitor red on the left, jester pink on the right (R|P) but is reversed in 'Don't Press the Button...Again'.

Classic Era TTT Information

• Randomat: Randomat Introduced (23/2/17, Afraid of the Dark). The effect is shown in the bottom left where the chat occurs. New randomat effect shown in centre of the screen (1/8/17, Somewhere Elsa)
• Roles: 10/3/18 (Bunker Busters): The Phoenix's last main appearance. 24/4/18 (Escape the Tester): The Survivalist's main last appearance. The Infected respawn mechanics change (25/6/19, We've Got Too Many Mods). Now when the player dies the model remains on the floor while they respawn elsewhere. Previously it was they respawn where they died with no model on the floor.
• Death Links: These are represented by a red line between the role bars (5/3/19, We've Been Anime'd). Represented by cartoon grey skulls at the right/bottom right corner of the role bar. The colour is dark red in 'I Make the Rules Here' (24/3/19, We Can See Everything). They are now realistic white skulls, (1/9/19, Shoot Me Shoot Me Shoot Me). However the cartoon skulls and the realistic ones alternate up until 12/1/20 'New Weapon Maclunkey Gun'.

• Theme Songs for GmodTTT are: 1890's Suite The Chase (14/6/14, Two Men), Gentlemen and Their Stories (22/4/15, Inception Deception), The Royal Gardens (26/1/16, Great White Shark), Cinderella Ball Night (14/11/16, Lego Chopper).
• Player identification that is used are the Minecraft caricatures used in top/bottom corners 14/6/14 and the Yogscast font used from 20/3/15 (Gmod Funny Moments).
• 17/1/19 (His New Name is Grand Wizard) : New Intro - A clip from the video is teased before playing a new animated intro as the first proper round starts.

Modern Roles (post-2020)

From 25/2/20 the role bars at the top of the screen show the team that the player is on: Innocent, Detective (Innocent), Traitor, Jester and Monster. Later Independent are added such as the Drunk role. In each bar there is a symbol on the left showing the specific role of the player.

Modern Era TTT Information

• Glitch: When there is a Glitch, the role bar is split with Red on the left and green on the right (R\G) but once identified it goes to the full colour. The symbol is a question mark (First seen 14/3/20 (Robin is Back!)). Once identified it goes to the full colour (when seen from a traitors point of view). But if its is seen from the glitches point of view, the bar begins grey as normal then goes to full green. In 'Greatest Grav Grenade' (12/5/20) when there is a Glitch, the players who are the traitor and the glitch, are now just shown with the role bar being Traitor. e.g. 3 traitors rather than 1 Traitor and 2 split bars. The bar goes to the full green when identified when dead/seen on screen. 30/6/20 (Everyone is Swapping Roles): When there’s a glitch there is the split bars again with traitor red/innocent green.
• Swapper: When there is a Swapper, the role bar is shown just as a jester (as would be seen by a traitor). When seen on screen the player who is the swapper has the jester hat change to the 'refresh' symbol. (13/5/20,Eaten Alive By Giant Crocodile):
• Death Links: They are white cartoon skulls on the right hand side of the bar. They're vertical and next to the name so: Symbol-Name-Skull (25/2/20). When there is more than one death link, instead of white skulls at the right of the role bar you have L. green, red and L.blue. (21/4/20, Admin vs. Admin). Deathlinks are now shown with a red rectangle below the role bar with the player name at the bottom of it - including 'nobody' if a player is not linked with anyone. e.g. Duncan--Ben, Ben--Duncan. (29/4/20, The Most Ambitious Crossover in TTT History). Deathlinks are shown with a white skull connecting/in between the two player role bars (9/5/20, The Longest Gunfight Ever). Death Links return to being a skull on the right side of the bar (23/5/20, Year of Yogscast TTT in One Round!). Deathlinks are once again shown with a white skull connecting/in between two player bars. (6/6/20, She's A Dog Detective). Deathlinks return to having a white skull on the right of the bar e.g. the randomat ’X and Y are soul mates’ or deathlinked . But its possible for the randomat ‘Soulmates’ it has them in between the bar for all players (30/7/20, This is The Dumbest New Jester Meta - could be earlier) 
• The red cross only is through the player name when they die. The bars begin grey and without the symbol until identified or seen on screen. A mod is added which only allows the detective to check dead players (25/2/20)
• The timer limit is increased to 10:00 from 5:00 (16/2/20, Fasted Shark in the West). It was briefly 40:00 which is the maximum in 'Spiff's Epic Exploits'.
• Randomat: Many new randomat events are added to the server. The randomat now displays a description of the event's effects when it appears on-screen (29/4/21, We added tons of NEW guns to Gmod TTT!)
• When the randomat 'It's Duncan!' occurs all the player names in the role bar are renamed to Duncan. The real name is revealed when the player dies or is identified. (18/4/20, New Doncon Randomat)

Mud Scientist	Poo	Independent	Mud Scientist is triggered by randomat (What's the Mud Scientist?). New Server 2024

Starting from 1/2/24, a new server is used, the role bars at the bottom left of the screen has become unified, with different color backgrounds representing each role category respectively: Innocent, Detective, Traitor, Jester and Independent. The colours Yellow and Orange are also no longer in use.

Soulmage	Hypnotized Ghost over Right Shoulder	Traitor	Turn a ghost into a Soulbound Traitor who can speak while dead and also spawn things in using their exclusive shop!
Soulbound	Hypnotized Ghost	Traitor	The Soulbound is a traitor role who is created by the Soulmage. The Soulbound can use special abilities while they are spectating to help fellow traitors.
Good Twin	Two people with one having an angel halo	Innocent	The Good Twin spawns with an Evil Twin and they must convince everyone else who the real Good Twin is. Twins are unable to damage each other unless there are no other non-jester players alive. If all Evil Twins die then Good Twins are temporarily invulnerable, but the reverse is also true. If all Good Twins die then Evil Twins will become invulnerable.	9/11/24 (These two new roles take over the game in Gmod TTT!)
Bad Twin	Two people with one having evil horns	Traitor	The Evil Twin spawns with an Good Twin and they must trick everyone else into thinking that they are the Good Twin. Twins are unable to damage each other unless there are no other non-jester players alive. If all Good Twins die then Evil Twins are temporarily invulnerable, but the reverse is also true. If all Evil Twins die then Good Twins will become invulnerable.
Illusionist	Portal	Detective	The Illusionist prevents members of the traitor team from learning who their allies are. As long as an Illusionist is alive, members of the traitor team will not be able see icons and roles of fellow traitors', use team chat, or transfer credits. When the Illusionist dies, members of the traitor team will be notified and will regain these abilities.	12/11/24 (The new Detective scrambles the Traitors in Gmod TTT!)
Plaguemaster	WW1 era Gas Mask	Independent	The Plaguemaster uses their dart gun to start a deadly plague which spreads from player to player. The plague is spread between players. A player with the plague will succumb to the plague and die after a certain amount of time. The plague can be removed from a single player if a cure is used on them. Cures can be bought by Detectives and Doctors by default.	22/11/24 (The new Plague Master causes absolute chaos in Gmod TTT!)
Scout	Spyglass	Innocent	The Scout learns which special traitor roles are in play.	3/12/24 (We activated EVERY ROLE in Gmod TTT!)
Quartermaster	Crate	Detective	The Quartermaster can buy items available to Traitors as weapon crates for other players. The Quartermaster cannot buy items for themselves, and instead all items bought by the Quartermaster will be dropped on the ground in crates that can be opened by other players. The Quartermaster cannot open their own crates and so must instead supply items to other players.
Trickster	Magic Hat and Wand	Innocent	The Trickster can activate traps like members of the traitor team. The Trickster can also loot credits from corpses, in case a traitor trap or traitor button requires payment.
