What I've noticed in the years that the main Yogscast channel has been active is that there have been many, many changes, wich include good and bad changes. I wanted to go over a few and see what you guys think of it. Don't get it wrong, I love the Yogscast and will always be a loyal Yognaught, but I just wanted to talk about how the channel has changed. (These are my opinions, leave your opinions in the 'reply' section)
Over the years there have been some changes that you could see as negative, some may see it as positive, I listed a few of these changes here:
1. Less crazy stuff
The Yogscast is well-known to do some really crazy stuff, I've noticed that the amount of crazy stuff has really decreases. In the past Simon would do things like destroying half of an adventure map if he couldn't figure out a puzzle, now they spend more time on a puzzle if they can't figure one out.
2. Less stuff with fans
A few years ago, the Yogscast had a public server where all their fans could hang out and have fun. They also sometimes played an online game with some of their fans. Now the server doesn't exist anymore (Probably becaus eit got griefed to death, but with the newest plug-ins it's possible to prevent that) and they don't really play games with their fans anymore. I know they have a busy life and don't really have time to play games with fans, but it would still be cool do be able to play Minecraft or another game with fellow Yognaughts.
3. Sometimes it feels like they're forced to play certain games
Back in the day, Simon and Lewis played new and random games, and played what they liked, now it sometimes feels that they're forced to do certain videos (like Voltz and YogCraft). Of course they enjoy playing it and have a few good laughs but still, their fans always demand that certain videos have to be produced.
4. Series that we miss/where left un-finished
Some series have been dropped or haven't been made in a very long time. Of course, Shadow of Israphel, but I don't want to start about that again, I think that that is just dealt with and that we know that it will be made at some point, we just need to be patient. I'm talking about series like 'Simon plays!' or the good old Mod reviews with Hannah, or even YogTrailers. I really hope they will make one of those videos again.
Through the years, there also have been some really good changes like:
1. Better quality and longer videos
In the past the Yogscast's videos tended to be much shorter and have worse audio then they do now. The videos from back then were like 10 minutes each. Now almost every video is around the 20 minutes long.
2. Scheduled and continual series
In the past the Yogscast used to have some really short series wich only lasted a few episodes, and those were uploaded when they were ready. Now we have continual videos and they are scheduled for certain days, wich is much better.
3. More channels
In the past, the 'BlueXephos' channel was the only one. Then 'yogscast2' came, wich was mainly used for YogTrailers. When friends of Lewis and Simon started to become involved in the videos, and they saw how much feedback they got from Yognaughts, they made their own channels. The videos on these channels are the same good quality as those from the main channel. If you take a look at those channels now, you can see that tey have really much subscribers, with 2 of those already having reached the million subscribers and 2 other channels are creeping up to the million subscribers.
4. Projects and charity drives
The past 2 years the Yogscast has been doing Christmas charity drives. These drives are always very succesful and the yogscast tries their very best to make them even more succesful with special videos, livestreams, rewards and many other things. There is also a Yogscast game in production, called YogVentures, wich people have been working very hard on.
Well, I think that covers the most big changes over the last few years. I hope you enjoyed reading, show me your take on the changes in the reply section.
I definitely think they may have tired of Minecraft just a hair and I don't blame them. Recently they seemed to have branched out more. I love the Garry's Mod and Star Forge videos. Besides the fact that those videos are pure craziness, I think they're also more enjoyable because of the group dynamic. To me, Simon & Lewis are good. Simon, Lewis & Duncan are better and Simon, Lewis, Duncan, Sips, Sjin & Ridgedog are hilarious.
There is no way that they will stop playing minecraft but I think that, like stezton all of the yogscast playing together is for the best and that it has made their series all the better that they have started playing mods as well. FYI my favourite person of the yogscast is Duncan.
I know that they closed the servers, not only due to griefing, but because a lot of members were being very, very nasty towards each other, and others were "mini-modding", which gets in the way of the actual mods.
I reckon the Yogscast just don't want to lower themselves to our level. That's the truth. They're too 'HIGH' for us normal folk. I bet if you had a million Subscribers, you'd be able to play with them! IT'S THE TRUTH!
Oh and by the way, you forgot how they always script stuff now!
That's not necessarily true. Back when they had their servers, I remember seeing them playing with the fans all the time. And they also chose random fans from their forums to join them in Granny Bacon's funeral. They don't allow us to play with them often because, quite frankly, there's way too many of us for one server to handle.
I think what he means is that they used to invite random people to do things and don't do that at all now. Server or no server. if i had the cash inflow they did I could make a server(s) that could support a huge chunk of the communtiy. it was closed down due to the high number of greifers and such. No staff handled the situation and it just became crappy. Once a server that large has that happen a map wipe would kill off too many people so it just chut down. This was also partially due to the museum server as well.
Granted they are busy. They do have jobs. But most of the time consuming (video editing soundfeedback) is gone over by the other guys in the office. They handle the scripting and voiceing as far as I've heard. I do think there is time though.
this is a reply to the wikia contributor but i cant work out how to reply so this is my substitute :P
WUT? I really don't think it is for that reason; the yogscast wouldn't be like that! By the way, I'm not trying to be mean i just want to state my opinion on your comment.
I think it is probably due to all of the spam, griefing, lagging, organising, technichal, mini-modding, false accounts and plain old peeps being mean that stopped all of the meeting-with-random-people stuff. Also, they are busy! Making a quality video can take forever and then the editing, the syncing, the checking; uploading a video can take hours sometimes!
Finally, there are so many Yognaughts/Yognauts out there and there are more and more each passing day. Over 5 million fans is WAAAAAAY to much for one server! It would get far too crazy to handle and before you knew what was happening, some jerkface would have crashed the game by blowing up the entire world.
It would be nice to meet them in-game sometime, but are we ready for it?
The Yogscast change because their fans change as well sometimes people get bored with the same old format. The Yogscast has even done more fan favorites like Tekkit/Yogcraft and Trucken Tuesdays.
Let's not forgot how much the Yogscast have grown over the last Year and a half with the addition of Strippen, HybridPanda, Kim, Martyn, Nilesy, Parv, and Zoey's channels to link up with the main channel. With all of these diffrent Channels the Yogscast is making much more material and videos, which takes a lot of work to edit and record so we have to give them a break if their tired or a little unsure on the game they play.
No matter what, the Yogscast members always provide at least one video to us devoted fans and i am thankful for that.
One thing I have found which has changed is that the comments are disabled on all their videos now. Only on the BlueXephos channel though whereas Hannah in her Sims3 videos encourages people too let her know their decisions in the comments so I don't understand why on BlueXephos disables the comments. Yes, I know there are a lot of trolls around but it doesn't the rest of the mature community cannot discuss their opinions on the video.
Thanks @Tower12346 I never realised they did a video on it. That explains everything. Sorry, I have been very slow on Yogscast videos since my internet connection got diahorrea or however you spell it. Thank you.
Hey, I've been a loyal Yognaut for 5 years now (since the latter half of 2010) and I can agree with all of your statements here, I would love to see some of the old series back, like SOI and YogLabs, and I can agree that after 5 solid years of playing Minecraft they are probably getting tired of it, but they have built up this reputation for being one of the biggest Minecraft based networks on YouTube, and I feel like they're being forced to do Minecraft, but it is entirely in their power to decide what they want to do with their channels, and a lot of the cutting series short is to do with bugs and crashes and the like, but ultimately, they need to make a living, and their HUGE Minecraft reputation is what keeps them living.
Recently I've been noticing a huge increace in GTA5 content since it was releaseased on the PC, and I think that that may be a bit of a turning point. I think the Yogscast are turning towards more Garry's Mod and GTA rather than Minecraft. They also seem to be running out of Minecraft ideas, with most series now being questbook related.
